Good Morning Green Juice Recipe

Did you hear that knock? That's your body begging you for a glass of this good morning green juice! I mean it, after 1 week of drinking this juice daily, you will find your body begging you for a glass.

I got into juicing when I was 25 years old and learned that I had stage 2 Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer. I received 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 separate, powerful drugs at each infusion, and 3 weeks of radiation following that. The chemo burned the veins in my wrists and forearms so badly that I developed phlebitis (vein inflammation) that made it hurt for the bed sheet to rest on top of it, I lost all my hair....and I do me all, including my eyebrows - that's cute, and the chemo gave me pretty wicked mouth/gum pain that radiated down to my jaw line. It was a hard time. I wanted to be a thriving 25 year old like my peers but God showed me my intense fragility, a lesson I wouldn't trade for anything. I am just as fragile now as a cancer-free, thriving 35 year old, but most days I am not as aware. Physical suffering can bring about spiritual flourishing in its own special way.

During my treatments I learned about a type of natural cancer treatment called Gerson Therapy. Your typical western doctor won't be the one to tell you about it....I'll include a link at the bottom of this blog post. Basically, a cancer patient will consume multiple (I think approximately 10-13 glasses) 8 oz glasses of fresh, organic juice daily to fight their cancer. And it works! Like, for a lot of different people, and a lot of different types of advanced cancers.

As much as I wanted to dump the sickening, yet effective chemo/radiation plan and move to tropical Mexico for 8-12 weeks of boatloads of juiced kale and holistic medical supervision I didn't. My husband, who loves me to pieces and wants only good for me, felt strongly that I should finish the chemo regimen here in NC and encouraged me to buy a juicer and do my own mini-Gerson sessions at home. So that's what I did.

I bought a Breville juicer - here is the Amazon link to the one I have (have had two of these) and really enjoy...

This is another juicer I have heard really good things about...(but it is much more expensive and outta my price range)...

During my cancer journey I would juice everyday, 1-2 times per day. I have continued my juicing journey since that time. I have taken breaks from juicing but I always come back to it. To be forthright, to clean a juicer daily is a little bot of work. I have found that my body craves these fresh pressed juices, especially after I get back in the habit of doing it. My daughter asks almost daily for fresh juiced carrot/apple/ginger root juice, and when my husband sees me juicing he always asks for me to make enough for him too! Vada has drunken carrot/apple juice since she was 2 years old (at that time from her bottle). I love watching her suck it down knowing she is getting loads of nutrition into her little system. Fresh juice can really help children with ADHD, something that most children who spent any amount of time in an institutional setting (like an orphanage) struggle with due to hindered brain development.

There are so so many health benefits of juicing. If you can't afford to buy a new juicer, see if your HSA will cover it under their "preventative medicine" coverage or perhaps you can find a pre-loved juicer on Facebook Marketplace or at a local thrift store.

The thing about juicing that is different from eating fruits and veggies or consuming a smoothie is single fold: the fiber. When you juice a plant, all of the fiber of the plant has been removed and you are left with a very nutrient-dense liquid. Liquid from the fruit or veggie you just juiced!

To get a full 8 oz glass of juice, it will require an entire bundle of kale, 1/4 a fresh pineapple, 2 organic apples, and a large cucumber. That is for a single serving of juice. It would take me an entire day and a sore chewer to eat all of that! Secondly, if I was able to eat it all, while it would have many health benefits, I would lose part of the nutrients in gut digestion. Liquid goes straight to your bloodstream. Because all of the fiber has been removed from the plant, when you drink it's juice, the gut has no work to do in digestion and the juice permeates the lining of the intestine and is absorbed directly and immediately into your bloodstream.

Here are a few benefits of vegetable and fruit juices! They are:

anti inflammatory to your bod's cells

provide you with high doses of vitamins and minerals

give you high doses of polyphenols (free radical neutralizers - aka anticancer)

it boosts your immunity

and they remove toxins from your system

So, if you wanna join me on aiming to drink 1 glass of green juice each morning let me know in the comments! If you have a loved one struggling with cancer, pass this info along! There is a really interesting documentary on Amazon called "Dying to Have Known" that goes into great detail about the health victories associated with Gerson therapy (juice therapy).

My good morning green smoothie recipe:

  • 1 large bundle of organic kale (I use Dino kale)

  • 2 organic, red apples

  • 1 organic large cucumber

  • 3 slices of chunks, organic pineapple

*Tip: over the weekend prep your daily juice ingredients in a large ziploc bag (so 7 bags total for the week) and line the fiber shoot of your juicer with a plastic, grocery bag for easy cleanup! I set my juicer up on the counter each night before bed so that I can minimize excuses to not do it the next morning! In the morning, just grab your "Monday ziplock bag" or "Tuesday ziplock bag" from the fridge - dump in the juicer and start your day with a glass of green purity! Your body will thank you!

I'm becoming more and more convinced that our morning habits are powerful! What are some morning habits you do? Share below and let's push one another to life-giving nourishment for our minds, bodies, and souls. Thank you for being here with me. I'm grateful for you. Love, Catie
