I was feeling a little lazzzzzy on the recipe side of things this week...I'll blame it on this NC, July humidity and the afternoon rainstorms of late. But honestly, I have been drinking this homemade electrolyte drink almost every day this summer! It is SO refreshing and it balances the stress hormone, cortisol, so I thought I'd share it with you too! It's great for kids too!
On a side note -- I used to spend my entire summers on the clay tennis courts at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, where I grew up. I begged my parents not to send me to camp so that I wouldn't miss summer tennis every afternoon. I would drink an orange Gatorade almost every day as my purple cheeks had sweat pouring down them. Our tennis coach, Ken, would have a tennis clinic from 1-3:30 pm, in the hottest part of the day, 3x/week all summer long. I loved it and I will never forget the people I spent those sweaty, summer afternoons with as a kid on those gray, clay tennis courts with the freshly-swept white lines. All of us who attended those clinics loved tennis and would travel around to USTA tournaments rooting for each other. My point here is that Gatorade is seriously nostalgic for me. But, it's loaded with toxic ingredients and sugar. This summer drink is an easy way to replenish your electrolytes after a good sweat sesh, and boost your health at the same time! Cheers!
